The Summer Is Meant For Ice Cream

The Summer Is Meant For Ice Cream

Summer of 2019 officially began on June 21, and here in Georgia it has been hot and humid. There’s a new ice cream franchise in our city and now was the best time to check it out.

Claiming to be the nation’s largest rolled ice cream brand since 2015, Sweet Charlie’s “rolled” into our city just a couple of weeks ago.

Sweet Charlie’s was started by an 18 yr old named Kyle Billig, who came across a video of a Thai street vendor making ice cream in front of a crowd. His curiosity, love of ice cream, & lack of access to anything like what he saw in the video, prompted him to create it himself. I think it was Plato who said, “Necessity is the mother of invention.”

Let me just say, that outside of the grocery stores, it is hard to find vegan ice cream in a parlor when you don’t live in a metropolitan city. Not only does Sweet Charlie’s have this option, but they are willing to go a step further and clean down the surface that they prepare your tasty treat on, to prevent cross contamination with dairy products. “Each ice cream is made to order on a super cold surface that is below 20 degrees. Because the surface is so cold, very small crystals are formed quickly. These ice crystals create the freshest, healthiest, most delicious end product. Their unique process eliminates the need to add stabilizers, emulsifiers, and preservatives like other ice cream parlors.” (via website)

They have 17 toppings (6 of them are vegan, all of them are free) that you can mix into your creamy creation on you can simply put them on top of the rolled product. I got the vegan (soy) milk base with crushed Oreos inside (yes, Oreos are vegan). After they crushed, rolled, & assembled the cold treat, I had it topped with more Oreos & strawberries.

I went right at opening time, so it was extremely busy & I had to wait awhile, but I guess that is to be expected since this location is fairly new. I will definitely go again when I have a craving for some ice cream in this sweltering Georgia heat.
